Abstract

Background: Although autoimmune diseases are often concomitant, the coexistence of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is rare.

Aim of Study: In this study, cases with concomitant PBC and ITP, including cases of Evans syndrome, were reviewed.

Methods: A literature search on scientific articles in English was conducted using the PubMed database, regarding the coexistence of PBC and ITP.

Results and Conclusion: Among the 20 cases, PBC was diagnosed first in 6 cases and ITP in 2 cases, while both diseases were almost simultaneously diagnosed in the remaining 12 cases. Standard pharmacotherapies of ursodeoxycholic acid and corticosteroids were used for concomitant cases. Of these cases, fatality was reported in 1 case.
