Abstract

The preventive effects of Lactobacillus plantarum CQPC07 (LP) on DSS-induced male C57BL/6J mouse colitis were investigated in this study. In DSS-induced colitis mice, the results showed that LP can increase colon length and decrease the ratio of colon weight/colon length. An analysis of mouse sera revealed that LP can lower serum ET (endothelin), SP (substance P), and IL-10 (interleukin-10), increase the activity of SS (somatostatin), and VIP (vasoactive intestinal peptide), and increase the levels of IL-2.Biochemical analysis of colonic tissues from mice revealed that LP can raise GSH (glutathione) and SOD (superoxide dismutase) levels while decreasing MPO (myeloperoxidase) and MDA levels (malondialdehyde). In DSS-treated mice, a pathological tissue evaluation revealed that LP can prevent colon tissue damage. Furthermore, LP has the ability to increasenNOS (neuronal nitric oxide synthase), eNOS (endothelial nitric oxide synthase), c-Kit, SCF (stem cell factor) mRNA expression and iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase), IL-8, and CXCR2 (C-X-C motif chemokine receptor 2) mRNA levels in the colon tissues of colitis mice. As a result, LP has a colitis inhibitory effect; the higher the concentration, the better the impact; the effect of a high concentration of LP is close to that of sulfasalazine.
