Abstract

Self-confidence is the major psychological variable for success of individual in any field. In sport, it is one of the most cited factors thought to affect athletic performance. Self-confidence is said to plays critical role in athletes 'success; in contrast, lack of Self-confidence seems to be closely associated with athletic failure. Thus, confidence is an important factor that distinguishes successful athletes from unsuccessful ones in terms of both their mental status as well as their performances.

Self-confidence helps an athlete to remain calm and relaxed under pressure. When athlete confident he can able to focus any task with increased effort and perform better in competitions. Various factors like, experience in sports, physical and mental preparations of athlete, environment comfort, support by the coach and society are influence on self-confidence of sports person. So, coaches and sports administrators must plan to include mental preparation technique in sports training.
